Join us for a wonderful evening of wine, cheese, and camaraderie as we discuss Railroads.
To celebrate the upcoming 100th anniversary of Coronado resident, benefactor, and visionary entrepreneur John D. Spreckels’ San Diego & Arizona Railway in 2019, the lecture will include a brief history of railroads in the San Diego region and visually show highlights of the construction and operations of the SD&A. This 148-mile long, binational “Impossible Railroad” has had a seemingly endless series of disasters and daunting challenges yet still is partially in operation today.
The Centennial celebration with a re-enactment of the Gold Spike ceremony will be on November 16, 2019, at the Campo Railroad Park and Museum. Information about the Centennial and the museum in Campo will be shared, as will a new traveling exhibit on the Centennial.
