Coronado is unveiling some hot new restaurants and accommodations for 2024 – mark your calendar to get a first look (and taste and sleep)!

JT PRIME KITCHEN & COCKTAILS (August 2024)

JT Prime is bringing atmospheric speakeasy vibes to the former Primavera Ristorante location at 932 Orange Ave. Celebrated chef Alex Trujillo says, “Our specialties range from succulent roast pork belly with a chile de árbol blackberry sauce to delicacies like oysters and charred octopus, not forgetting our homemade ravioli in a rich gorgonzola cream. While we’re not strictly a steakhouse, but we do pride ourselves on offering prime beef and Wagyu selections.” Excitingly, the Coronado location will also be introducing the Prime Lunch Hour.

BLANCO COCINA CANTINA (Summer 2024)

We know Blanco Cocina Cantina is going to be an airy, stylish venue with immaculate service and lip-smackingly tasty food, because this is the same team that brought Coronado the huge hit that is The Henry. (Fox Restaurant Concepts.) Described as ‘taco and tequila paradise’, Blanco is opening this summer in the former Bistro D’Asia corner spot at 1301 Orange Ave, perhaps with some of the decor touches found in other editions around the US?

CONSORTIUM HOLDINGS HOTEL/RESTAURANT (June 2024)

Clyde Van Arsdell of Consortium Holdings gave the Coronado Times the insider scoop on the major makeover La Avenida Inn. As well as 32 bespoke rooms and a reimagined pool, there will be a Greek/Mediterranean Brasserie with a full bar featuring a creative cocktail menu, plus a reservation-only Champagne & Oyster bar. Looking at other CH projects in San Diego – Morning Glory, Lafayette Hotel & Swim Club – we know the design will have major WOW factor!

THE BOWER (Fall 2024)

The name Bower is inspired by the property’s history as John D Spreckel’s personal tea garden at the Spreckels Mansion (now the Glorietta Bay Inn). The word means a peaceful, shaded escape under trees and the team of J Street and Delawie Architecture have integrated beautiful landscaping and vines into the hotel’s design. It will feature 39 guest rooms, a rooftop restaurant and bar with 270 degrees of unobstructed views, and a lobby lounge and café. Happily the new design will incorporate the beloved signature neon sign of the Villa Capri motel.

BY THE SEA

No new images yet for what was Vigilucci’s, Maretalia and, most recently, Boardwalk Beach Club directly above the Tavern on the corner of Orange and Churchill Place. The new project is the vision of Douglas Hamm, president and founder of real estate development and investment company Creative House, known for the success of Nolita Hall in Little Italy, Lofty Coffee and Half Door Brewing. The new restaurant is to be named By The Sea and will offer a fresh take on an Italian seafood menu. Can’t wait!
